metachk is designed to check Solstice DiskSuite configurations, and is thus only available for Solaris 2.x (aka SunOS 5) and later releases.
I know that the archaic DiskSuite 1.0 is available for SunOS 4, but it is a different beast on that platform and would require a different approach, so SunOS 4 is not supported.
metachk has been tested on every working combination of Solaris 2.4, 2.5, 2.5.1, 2.6, 7, 8 and 9 with DiskSuite 2.0.1, 3.0, 4.0, 4.1, 4.2 and 4.2.1 with all possible types of RAID metadevice, including shared disksets. It even does the right thing if DiskSuite is not installed!
metachk currently does not recognise "MPxIO"-style device-names on Solaris 9 (as utilised by the Sun add-on "Storage Traffic Management System" software): metadevices constructed from component devices with MPxIO-style names are not fully checked. See the Solaris 9 manpage for mpxio(7).
